Bruno Lumbroso Lecture Committee

Dear Colleagues:

As you know, the combined FLORetina – International Congress on OCT Angiography, En Face OCT and Advances in OCT will be in its Sixth Year this December 2026 (December 3 to December 6, 2026) in Florence, Italy.

Professor Bruno Lumbroso created the annual International Congress on OCT Angiography, En Face OCT and Advances in OCT (ICOOR), which became the largest OCT/OCTA Congress in the world until 2020.   Certainly, this global Congress has become one of the most successful, most-attended, and most educational meetings in the field of retinal imaging.  Every December for nine years, more than 1,500 attendees enjoyed spending a few days in Rome learning the latest advances in retinal imaging, from OCT to OCTA to adaptive optics to microperimetry, among others, and meeting new colleagues while rekindling with old ones. Since 2021, the ICOOR has been held in conjunction with the FLORetina Congress.  The joint FLORetina – ICOOR Congress (in Rome or Florence) is directed by Professor Stanislao Rizzo of Italy and has become one of the most important congresses in the field of Retina.

To honor the outstanding lifetime contributions that Professor Lumbroso made to the field of ocular imaging, we have established the Bruno Lumbroso Lecture at each International Congress on OCT Angiography and FLORetina.  The Inaugural Bruno Lumbroso Lecture was delivered during the December 2018 Congress by Dr. SriniVas Sadda (USA), a distinguished clinician scientist selected by the Lumbroso Lecture Selection Committee.  The second (2019) Lumbroso lecture was delivered by Professor Ursula Schmidt-Erfurth (Austria).  The third (2020) Lumbroso Lecturer was Dr. Lawrence Yannuzzi (USA).  In December 2021, during the first combined FLORetina – ICOOR, Professor James Fujimoto (USA) was selected as the fourth Lumbroso Lecturer. The fifth Lumbroso Lecturer was Dr. K. Bailey Freund (USA) who delivered the Lecture in December 2022.  Dr. Giovanni Staurenghi (Italy) delivered the sixth Lumbroso Lecture in December 2023, and Dr. Amani Fawzi (USA) delivered the seventh Lumbroso Lecture in December 2024.  In 2025, we were honored to have Dr. Eric Souied (France) as the eighth Lumbroso Lecturer.

We are now in the process of selecting the Ninth Annual Lumbroso Lecturer for the 2026 joint FLORetina - ICOOR Congress (December 3 to December 6).  Thus, if you plan to attend the 2026 Florence FLORetina - ICOOR Congress, please also join us at this very special Lecture.  If you would like to nominate colleagues for this lectureship, please send nominations to Professor Quan Dong Nguyen (Email:ndquan@stanford.edu) or to any member of the Selection Committee by August 15, 2026.
